Our 5,000-acre Wilderness Valley farm is located in Ruatiti Valley in the King Country, a beautiful and remote part of the world. In this location, nectar-filled Manuka trees thrive, and they are a crucial part of the natural environment. Our farm is a hill country station, so the trees protect against erosion as well as provide shelter for the wildlife in this area.
Our delicious and active Manuka honey comes from these Manuka trees. At Wilderness Valley, we have adopted sustainable farming techniques, part of which involves spreading all our beehives across the bush. This open space between hives facilitates a more natural way for bees collecting nectar, prevents the overpopulation of bees, and it also helps contribute to the quality of honey that we produce.
As well as being passionate about the land, we are also passionate about every aspect of honey production - from bees to nectar to the spoonful you use in your food. Manuka honey is known as a monofloral honey. That means it is honey that comes from the nectar of one tree. In the case of Manuka honey, that is the Manuka tree. This tree is native to New Zealand and a crucial part of the landscape here in the King Country

About the UMF™ Grading System
When you browse our Manuka honey shop, you will see the products are categorised according to their UMF™ grading. The products in our range are given their grade from the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association following testing by an independent laboratory, to ensure purity.
What do the gradings mean, though? The grading system analyses the presence of key chemical markers and unique signature compounds in the honey – Leptosperin, DHA, and Methylglyoxal. The higher-grade number represents higher quality. At Wilderness Valley, we produce Manuka honey in four grades – UMF™ 8+, UMF™ 10+, UMF™ 13+, and UMF™ 15+.
